What Should I Know About Final Restraining Orders in Bergen County?

Some of the important factors in obtaining a Final Restraining Order include the occurrence of one or more of 14 criminal offenses upon a person who is protected under the Prevention of Domestic Violence Law.  These criminal offenses include harassment, homicide, stalking, assault, terroristic threats and kidnapping. In order for the law to apply, the offender must be at least 18 years of age or be an emancipated minor having been married or had a child.  The victim of domestic violence must be a person who is 18 years of age or older or who is an emancipated minor and who has been subjected to domestic violence by a spouse, former spouse, present or former household member or regardless of age has or is about to have a child with the offender or has or has had a dating relationship with the offender.
