Temporary Restraining Order

  • A Temporary Restraining Order is the Order a victim of an act of domestic violence must first obtain in order to eventually obtain a Final Restraining Order.
  • The victim can apply for the Temporary Restraining Order from her home if the police are called and the courthouse is closed or at the local courthouse if open.  
  • If the victim is granted the TRO, the Final Restraining Order Hearing is scheduled within 10 days and the TRO is served upon the alleged offender.  
  • The TRO restrains the offender from having any contact with the victim at home or at work.  
  • The offender must leave the residence if the parties are living together.
