How is Alimony Determined in Bergen County?

How is Alimony Determined in Bergen County?

A spouse is not automatically entitled to alimony.   A NJ statute sets out the out the types of alimony that a court may award and the factors the court must consider when determining if alimony should be awarded and if so, the amount of the alimony and the period of time it should be paid by the other spouse.  As of the enactment of the amended statute in 2014, alimony cannot be awarded for a period of time that exceeds the number of years of the marriage if the parties were married for fewer than 20 years.
